Presbyopia pricing questions almost always come back to one thing, and it isn't the clinic. Here's what's actually behind the number, without a flat answer pretending every case is the same.
I'm Dr. Baek Dong-won, Representative Director at EYEONCE Eye Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul. Presbyopia cost questions tend to arrive already frustrated โ patients have seen a wide spread of numbers online and no clear explanation for why. The honest version: the lens you choose changes the price far more than anything else, and the right lens depends on your eyes and how you actually want to live without reading glasses, not a fixed package we quote the same way to everyone.
Presbyopia is the natural, age-related stiffening of the eye's own lens that reduces near-focusing power. Lens-based correction replaces that lens with a premium intraocular lens built to restore a fuller range of vision โ full detail is on our presbyopia correction page. It's worth saying plainly: reading glasses and contacts remain completely valid long-term options. Surgery is for patients who specifically want lasting freedom from reaching for them, not a medical requirement.
Three things move the number the most. First, lens family: a standard monofocal lens gives sharp vision at one distance, while a premium multifocal or EDOF (extended depth of focus) lens is engineered to cover near, intermediate and far vision together โ the reason it costs more. Second, astigmatism: a toric version of either lens corrects astigmatism at the same time, manufactured specifically for your eyes. Third, whether one or both eyes need treatment. None of this is clinic markup โ it reflects what the lens itself is built to do.
Presbyopia and early cataracts show up around similar ages, and it's common for both to be present at once. When that's the case, a single premium multifocal or EDOF lens can often address both during the same procedure โ covered in more detail on our cataract surgery page, and we've written separately about what drives cataract surgery cost specifically, since the lens logic is largely the same.
Most international patients plan for about 5-7 days: the diagnostic exam and lens planning, the procedure itself, and a follow-up exam before flying home. If you're also still deciding between presbyopia correction and other procedures, our procedure comparison page is a useful next stop.
Contact us at any time if your near vision changes again or anything feels off after your procedure โ this is covered under our lifetime aftercare commitment. We'll review a detailed re-examination and guide you through appropriate next steps.
Lens requirements and final cost can only be confirmed through a diagnostic exam. Nothing in this article is a quote โ message us with your details for a personalized one.
